Event

Sylvia is part of the organising team for the Bassetlaw Black History Month Event, which this year centres on the power of storytelling. Under the theme “Reclaiming the Narrative & Shaping Our Future,” the event explores the impact of storytelling; who is telling the story and how it is told.

This year’s celebration is a family-focused event, featuring free workshops for children on poetry writing, dancing, and DJing. For adults, the programme includes sessions aimed at reclaiming and reshaping the narrative around topics such as men’s mental health, career navigation, starting a care business and securing contracts, as well as the importance of life insurance as a form of family security in unforeseen circumstances. Attendees will be actively encouraged to consciously tell their own stories, and to unlearn narratives passed down through society that may no longer serve them empowering themselves and their families to shape a more positive and purposeful future.
